Mummified Meatloaf
1 lb ground beef round
1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1/2 cup)
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/3 cup ketchup
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 eggs
4 sticks (1 oz each) string cheese
1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury® Crescent Recipe Creations® refrigerated seamless dough sheet
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line broiler pan with foil and spray foil with cooking spray. Set aside.
In a large bowl, mix beef, onion, bread crumbs, ketchup, salt, pepper and eggs. On work surface, shape meat mixture into 4 (6x2-inch) loaves, inserting 1 cheese stick lengthwise in center of each loaf. Simply taper the ends of the loaves to look more mummy-like, or have fun with it. Roll four pieces of the meat mixture lengthwise to form arms and legs and press into the torso at the sides and bottoms, or cross two pieces of the meat mixture over the torso for arms.
Once the mummies are formed, place in broiler pan and bake 25 minutes.
While meatloaves are baking, unroll dough onto a cutting board. Cut into 4 rectangles. Cut each rectangle lengthwise into about 7 strips. "Wrap" the mummy meatloaves by crossing the dough strips over each loaf to look like “bandages,” stretching them to completely cover. Tuck the dough ends under each loaf. About 1/2 inch from the top of the mummies' heads, separate two “bandage strips” to let meat loaf show through for the faces. One option is to add two black olives in that space for eyes.
Bake 17 to 20 minutes longer or until golden brown. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
